In 1922, Billy Lyons formed a company creating motorcycle sidecars called Swallow Sidecars.

Owing to their unique and stylish look, sales flourished and Lyons turned his attention to cars, first creating the famous Austin 7 Swallow.

In 1931, Lyons arranged for the Standard Motor Company to produce engines for his chassis and in 1935 the name Jaguar was adopted for the sports cars that followed, such as the XK120, XJ and D-Type.

In 1966, British Leyland bought Jaguar, who in turn sold to Ford in 1990.
