How do you service a hybrid?

All cars need to be serviced regularly, regardless of type, age and model, and whether they are electric, hybrid or powered by good ol’ petrol.

Hybrid cars run on a combination of electricity and petrol. Thanks to a few additional maintenance requirements, they may require slightly different treatment, although the services listed below will be mostly familiar. At every hybrid maintenance you can expect:

  • Battery testing to identify issues
  • Regular oil changes,
  • Belt replacements and tyre alignment and replacement
  • Transaxle fluid replacement to prevent breakdowns
  • Air, pollen and fuel filter replacements when recommended
  • Electronic and computer testing
  • All other tests as specified by the manufacturer

Is it expensive to service a hybrid?

No! It shouldn’t cost you anymore than servicing a run-of-the-mill combustion vehicle, provided you’re not up against any serious repairs. You may end up paying less, as hybrid components require very little maintenance.

Are hybrids high maintenance?

Not at all. We strongly recommend servicing your hybrid every 12 months or in line with manufacturer recommendations. While hybrids cost more upfront, their long term benefits can outweigh the initial number, from consuming less fuel to less wear and tear on the engine.
