How do I know when it’s time to change oil in my Hyundai?

We recommend servicing your Hyundai every 6 to 12 months. Every service comes with a premium oil and filter change, and this is usually enough to keep your car happy.

However, an oil change can also be a standalone service. If you notice any of the following symptoms, bring your Hyundai in earlier:

  • You check your oil and it looks dirty or is running low
  • The engine’s making strange noises
  • The car’s vibrating more than usual
  • There’s dark smoke coming from the exhaust
  • The dashboard warning light is on
  • The car has a burning smell

Don’t ignore the signs. Running your car with low oil or old oil that’s contaminated means your car won’t be properly protected, risking wear and potentially catastrophic engine damage down the road.

What is the Hyundai service oil change process at mycar?

When you come to mycar for your Hyundai service and oil change, we’ll give your vehicle a once-over. If we notice any issues, we’ll let you know.

Here’s what to expect from an oil change at mycar:

  • We’ll lift your Hyundai for easy access
  • Unplug the cap and drain the old oil
  • Replace the old oil filter with a new premium one
  • Refill with premium engine oil
  • Replace the cap, checking that the seal and cap aren’t damaged

Once the oil change is complete, we’ll make sure your car is running properly so you can drive away with confidence.

How much oil does a Hyundai need?

Hyundai has vehicles of all shapes and sizes, and the amount of oil they need depends on which car you drive. You can find the exact specifications in the user manual, or ask your friendly mycar technician for advice.

At mycar, our services include up to 6 litres of premium engine oil, and this is more than enough for most Hyundais.

How often do you change the oil in a Hyundai?

The manufacturer recommends following a servicing schedule, so you’ll need to book your Hyundai first oil change at 6 - 12 months, or after 10,000 km.

You can stick with this oil change frequency for the life of your vehicle.

Keep in mind, the way you drive can impact the quality of the oil, so if you tow regularly, drive long distances or so lots of stop-start city driving, extra oil changes may be needed.

What kind of oil does a Hyundai take?

Most newer Hyundais take synthetic engine oil. Common weights include 0W20, 5W20 and 5W30. It’s important to match the right oil to your vehicle type, and you can find the details in the user manual.

Always choose premium oil as it does a better job of lubricating your vehicle’s components, as well as helping keep your engine cooler.
