    What does a comprehensive vehicle inspection include?

    The inspection will include everything the manufacturer specifies and is required for the logbook service. Everything below, and much much more!

    • 1. Test drive

      The engine, drivetrain, brakes and suspension in your vehicle will be tested to ensure that they are up to standard.

    • 2. Operational check

      The standard components of your vehicle such as seat belts, lights, wipers including washers and arm mechanism, horn will be inspected. The air/cabin filters and housing will also be checked.

    • 3. Digital battery check

      Your battery will be tested and printed results will be provided.

    • 4. Inspection of underbody

      A visual inspection will be conducted for leaks from your engine, exhaust system, fuel line and gearbox.

    • 5. Tyre pressure and tread wear check

      The condition, pressure and tread wear of your tyres (including the spare) will be inspected to ensure that it is up to the legal standard.

    • 6. Brake wear recommendation

      A precise measurement can be provided to you. This will also include a fluid condition check.

    • 7. Suspension system check

      Joints and bearings in your vehicle will be checked for any leaks.

    • 8. Final assessment of vehicle

      The wheels are cross checked and a final road test is performed to ensure quality of the service and operations performed.

    Although the Northern Territory is one of the few states in Australia where you don't need a roadworthy certificate when buying or selling a car, you still need to make sure your car is drivable and safe on the road. New vehicles need to be evaluated on their fifth and tenth birthdays, and then each year following in order to maintain their registration.

    What to expect when you bring your car to mycar

    When you visit mycar to get your roadworthy, NT drivers can expect friendly service, expert assessors, and a thorough assessment. The Authorised Inspector will spend between two and four hours going over your vehicle and your digital certificate will be issued directly to the Motor Vehicle Registry on the day if your car passes inspection.

    Your inspection will cost $59.40 (current as at August 2022 and subject to change) no matter how long the process takes, as this is a fixed government fee. This may vary depending on whether you are having a motorcycle, light vehicle or commercial vehicle inspected. If your car requires repairs, such as its cooling system, brake system, or other, our expert mechanics can help take care of that too.
