Why change the oil in a Subaru Forester?

An oil change helps give your Subaru Forester a complete refresh, improving fuel economy and stripping away dirt and debris that can build up in your engine.

Life gets in the way sometimes as we juggle work, family and other responsibilities. But if you continue to put off changing your oil, you may end up causing some serious damage to your engine. In some cases, it might even lead to a full engine replacement.

At mycar, we’re the oil experts and we’ll conduct a thorough inspection of your engine before changing your oil. This way, you can be sure that everything’s in working order when you get back out on the road! We’re fast and efficient, without foregoing quality, and do it all, at a Subaru oil change price that’s fair and affordable.

How much does a Subaru Forester oil change cost?

A Subaru Forester oil change is usually between $150-$200. This can vary according to the year and model of your Subaru, kilometres travelled, the condition of your vehicle and oil type. Additional services might also factor into the price of your oil change.

At mycar, we do standalone oil changes for your Subaru Forester, but also offer fixed price servicing packages starting at just $269. All packages come with up to 6 litres of premium oil, a new high quality filter, and a detailed vehicle inspection, but our Essentials Plus Service comes with a range of added extras.

How customers feel about our Car Servicing

Signs your Subaru Forester needs an oil change

Often, the Subaru Forester's infotainment system or dash will warn you if the oil is low in your engine. Other signs to look out for include:

  • Sharp burning smell
  • Dark or dirty oil colour
  • Oil leaks around the oil pan, drain plug, and oil filter
  • Knocking or clunking sounds due to poor lubrication between moving parts
  • Low engine oil, resulting in the engine overheating and reduced fuel economy
  • Smoke coming out of the exhaust, causing oil leaks and engine parts to break.

If you notice one or more of these symptoms, schedule an oil change for your Subaru Forester at your nearest mycar store as soon as possible.

How we change oil on Subaru Foresters

Thanks to their years of experience and know-how, our oil experts know how to change the oil in a Subaru Forester with ease!

An oil change at mycar generally takes around 20-45 minutes and can be done either on its own or as part of a basic or logbook service.

This involves:

  • Running the car for a few minutes to warm up engine oil
  • Lifting the car using our workshop equipment to have a look underneath
  • Removing the sump plug and letting the oil drain into the pan for 5-10 minutes
  • Checking the plug and washer and putting them back on using a hex socket
  • Removing the oil filter and installing a new premium one
  • Refilling the oil with premium oil tailored to your Forester
  • Making a few final checks, then turning the car on for 30 seconds. We'll also check around the sump plug and filters for leaks
  • Cleaning and checking the dipstick to make sure the engine oil is full.

What type of oil does a Subaru Forester use?

The type of oil that your Subaru Forester needs will depend on engine type and oil viscosity. A turbocharged engine runs at a higher temperature and will require a 5W-30 synthetic motor oil, which is best suited for extreme temperatures. A non-turbo engine, meanwhile, will need an 0W-20 synthetic motor oil, which is better for fuel economy and increasing power.

How often does a Subaru Forester need an oil change

Subaru Forester oil change frequency may depend on the year and model of your vehicle, along with transmission type.

A Subaru Forester oil change interval can last for up to 12 months or 12,500 kilometres (whichever comes first) before needing to schedule an appointment with a licensed mechanic.

Keeping to a proper oil change schedule will help maintain the performance and safety of your Subaru, with engine parts staying lubricated for longer. Not getting your oil changed regularly may lead to improper lubrication, causing dirt and debris to clog up your engine and parts to wear down over time. This can lead to an increase in emissions, your vehicle's warranty being voided, an overheated engine or even complete engine failure.
