H3: How to tell if a Subaru needs an oil change

So how do you know if your Subaru needs an oil change? Most Subarus have a warning light to tell you if your oil is low, but there are other indicators too. Signs your Subaru’s oil needs changing include:

  • The oil is black and gritty
  • It’s been longer than 6 months since your last oil change
  • Your oil level is low
  • Your check oil light is on
  • There’s an oily smell inside your car or around your engine bay
  • There’s dark smoke coming from your exhaust

If you notice any of these signs, it’s time to give mycar a call to book in your Subaru oil change.

Do Subarus need special oil changes?

Subarus don’t typically need a special oil change, but it is important to ensure you’re using the right type of oil and changing it regularly.

What kind of oil does a Subaru take?

Subaru recommends a synthetic oil, typically a 0W-20 synthetic oil, for most of its cards. However, some models and years will need a different oil, such as the Subaru Impreza 2022 – 2011, which takes 5W-30 conventional oil. It’s best to check your owner’s manual before replacing your oil to ensure you’re using the right type, or ask your friendly local mycar mechanic if you’re in doubt.

How often does a Subaru need an oil change?

A Subaru requires an oil change every 12,500 km or every 6 months, depending which comes first. This Subaru oil change interval works in most cases, but if you drive a lot or you have an older model that uses conventional oil, you may need to change it more often.
