How do I know if my Nissan needs an oil change?

Recognising when your Nissan needs an oil change can make a huge difference when it comes to performance. Here are a few things to look out for:

  • Check engine light: This will tell you when it's time to do just that. It’s always a good idea to check your oil levels as part of this process.
  • Noisy engine: If your engine starts to make unusual noises, like knocking or rumbling sounds, it could be a sign that the oil isn't lubricating the engine components effectively.
  • Dirty or dark oil: If the oil is dark and gritty when you check it using the dipstick, it's time for a change.
  • Oil smell inside the car: A strong oil smell inside your car is a definite red flag, so get it checked out.

What is the oil change process for a Nissan at mycar?

Here’s a breakdown of what we do when we perform an oil change on your Nissan:

  • One of our skilled technicians will carry out a basic inspection of your Nissan. This makes sure the vehicle is in good condition for the service.
  • The technician will safely remove the oil drain plug, allowing the old oil to drain out completely.
  • A new oil filter that fits your Nissan model is installed.
  • With the old oil drained and the new filter in place, the technician will add fresh, high-quality oil.
  • A final inspection and a test drive is carried out to make sure everything is running properly.

How much oil does a Nissan need?

A Nissan generally requires between 4 to 6 litres of oil for a complete oil change, but the exact amount can vary depending on your model and engine type. Larger engines or those with more cylinders will need more oil. For example, a Nissan with a V6 engine will need more oil than one with a four-cylinder engine. If in doubt, take a look at your owner’s manual or chat with one of mycar’s experts.

How long can a Nissan go without an oil change?

A Nissan can typically go between 10,000 to 15,000 kilometres between oil changes. Your driving habits and conditions can play a role in this, so it always pays to be on the lookout for early warning signs. Frequent short trips and driving in stop-and-go traffic can lead to more frequent oil changes.

Does a Nissan need full synthetic oil?

Using full synthetic oil is recommended for most Nissan vehicles, especially newer models and high-performance vehicles. While older models may be compatible with conventional oil, synthetic oil offers better performance and protection making it a much better choice in the long run.
