These cars have been around since 2000 and are still in production today. There's no doubt X-trails are popular, and if you own one you’ll want to keep it in good nick. So, where do you start? With regular services and oil changes.

The oil change Nissan X-trail drivers depend on

Every time you take your Nissan X-trail in for a service, your mechanic should pamper your car with fresh oil. By refreshing the engine oil every few months, you can take the pressure off your motor and improve your X-trail’s efficiency.

mycar has a range of service options that come with an oil change, up to 8 litres of premium engine oil and a shiny new oil filter—see more about these services below.

How much is an oil change for a Nissan X-trail?

If your car is still under warranty, you’ll want to book regular logbook service. The price will depend on the age of your X-trail, but our friendly team will give you an upfront quote.

Alternatively, you can schedule an Essential Service. The price starts at $209 for an oil change, a new oil filter and a detailed inspection.

If you want extras such as tyre rotation, wheel balances and more, choose the Essential Service Plus option instead. Starting at just $269, you can rest easy knowing your X-trail is well cared for.

How customers feel about our Car Servicing

What kind of oil does a Nissan X-trail take?

A synthetic or semi-synthetic oil will usually be recommended for your Nissan X-trail, but there are a few other things you’ll need to consider. When you look at engine oils, the bottles will have a few key details. For example, you’ll see a series of numbers called the viscosity rating which signals how thick the oil is. The label will also tell you if it’s suitable for an unleaded or diesel vehicle.

You can read your user manual or chat with a mycar service technician to find the exact match for your X-trail.

When to get your Nissan X-trail’s oil changed

Your X-trail’s engine oil can be changed during your regular services. This will be around the 6-month mark, or every 10,000km—whichever comes first.

During the service, your mechanic will check other components to make sure everything is running smoothly. For example, they may recommend a Nissan X trail transmission oil change, a wheel alignment or new brake pads. If they find anything outside the ordinary, they’ll let you know first before starting any repairs or additional maintenance.

So how do you know if your X-trail needs a top up of oil? Keep an eye out for the following signs:

  • Your car is vibrating
  • You notice a burning smell
  • You check the oil levels and they are low
  • Your Nissan X-trail is making unusual noises
  • There is dark smoke coming out of your exhaust
